“I’ve only been involved with Ashgate for a short while, but I’m already so impressed by the care and ambition of its leaders – and the generosity and heart of its supporters.

“I hope it continues to develop as it provides this crucial service.”

The hospice’s chief executive, Lucy Nickson, said: “I am delighted Claire has joined us as a patron.

“We feel Claire’s connections with the local area are poignant given we are a Derbyshire-based charity. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire for joining us – we are very excited to have her on board.”

Ashgate Hospice, based in Ashgate Road, Chesterfield, provides specialist palliative and end of life care to people and their families across north Derbyshire, the Derbyshire Dales and the High Peak.

It is one of the largest hospices in the UK caring for more than 2,000 patients every year.

It costs £6.8million each year to run Ashgate Hospice. It receives an NHS grant of £2.5m but has to raise a further £4.3m to ensure these vital services continue to be provided.
