The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, told jurors he had a sexual relationship with the complainant a short time before Evans was accused of rape.

He said he had sex with her five or six times over a two week period before the alleged attack and recalled an incident where she ‘seemed drunk’. Evans, 27, is accused of having sex with a 19-year-old woman when she was too drunk to consent.

He denies rape and insists the sex was consensual.

His alleged victim’s former partner said that on one occasion, when he picked her up from a club, she was ‘a bit uneasy on her feet’.

He said their relationship was ‘purely based on sex’ and he described the woman as ‘confident’ in bed.

The court heard he provided two police statements - one in September 2011 and a second in December 2015 after a solicitor from Evans’ defence team called him.

Jurors were told that one of the witness’ relatives was a friend of the defendant. He said he provided more detail in his second statement as it was given in person, rather than over the phone.

The trial continues.
