Charity appeals for host families

A charity has launched an urgent appeal for Derbyshire families willing to open their hearts and homes to a child in need for a month this summer.

The Pinxton and East Derbyshire link of the Chernobyl Children’s Life Line usually brings up to 20 youngsters from the stricken area to the UK every year for a month of respite from the harsh conditions affecting their lives.

So far the charity only has enough families to host five children and are appealing for help.

The children will arrive on July 20 and stay until August 17. There is no charge to host families in bringing the children over from Belarus.

If you think you could help, contact Richard Street, chairman of the Pinxton and East Derbyshire link of the Chernobyl Children’s Life, by emailing [email protected] or calling 01773 810712.
