Celebrate golden era of steam in Buxworth village

It’s full steam ahead for this year’s Buxworth Steam Party!.

The annual community event, on Saturday October 5 and Sunday October 6, will feature an array of steam traction engines, working narrowboats, fairground organs and other old and interesting vehicles.

Attractions get underway at noon on the Saturday and will be spread throughout the village, with music and food available during the weekend at both the Navigation Inn and Bugsworth War Memorial Club.

There will also be a raffle prize draw and children’s fairground rides.

Buxworth Steam Party originally made its debut in 1979 when Frank and Tony Marchington, Frank and Jack Hardman and Norris Lawton showed their traction engines and steam rollers in the village at the end of the show season.

The parties continued every year through to the 1980s, and following a break in proceedings the event was revived in 2011 by a group of local enthusiasts.

Admission is free to the event, which supports the local air ambulance charity and IWPS, a group of volunteers helping to restore Bugsworth Basin.
