Derbyshire police were called to Tin Man Scrap at Harpur Hill Business Park, Cedar Avenue, just after 1am on July 31.

Four people broke into the property through a back door and made a search of an office area inside, a Derbyshire police spokesman said.

The alarm system sounded straight away and the alleged offenders made off empty-handed before officers arrived.

Three of the group then returned but were caught on CCTV by security. Police came back to the yard but they had left once again without taking anything before officers arrived.

Melissa Downhill, of Tin Man Scrap, said: “We are very shocked that a group of would-be thieves had the nerve to try again once the police and myself left the scene the first time.

“It is clear they are amateurs and we are offering a £2,500 reward to anyone who can give us information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the group.

“We are lucky to have such good measures up here, but it doesn’t stop people like this from trying. And they need to be stopped as a result.

“We are a family business that has worked hard for everything we have built up over the years.”

Melissa added: “Description wise, one had a bright blue hoodie with white writing on it and a man bag and soiled stone coloured trousers. The other had a khaki green hooded coat with dark coloured jeans. The next guy had a black hoodie and black jeans. The final guy had light coloured zip up hoodie which looked dirty and dark jeans.
