Darryl Scott said boy racers and motorcyclists are risking lives by “blatantly” breaking the 40mph speed limit on Wingfield Road in Alfreton.

Mr Scott, who lives on the road, said: “Several accidents have occurred in the past two years and I fear it will only be a matter of time before we experience a fatality.

“Weekends and summer evenings are most rife with the speed merchants – particularly boy racers and motorcyclists who seem to see this stretch as the start or finish line to and from Matlock Bath.

“The speed limit is set at 40mph but this is blatantly ignored by motorists and motorcyclists who are overtaking each other at unbelievable and unnecessary force.

“Local residents are at great risk every time they attempt to manoeuvre their vehicles from their driveways on to the road.”

A spokesman for Derbyshire road safety partnership urged everyone to drive at a safe speed.
