Campaign targets malnutrition in the elderly

Carers are being offered free advice on how to combat malnutrition on older people.

Derbyshire County Council will host a class tackling the subject as part of the Eat Well campaign.

The session will be held in Hurst Farm Community Centre, in Hurst Rise, Matlock, on Wednesday, February 6, between 6pm and 6pm.

The event can also be attended by anyone who thinks they could help an older friend, neighbour or relative who has lost weight but struggles with a small appetite.

There will be food demonstrations, menu plans and cooking tips. It will help people spot the symptoms of malnutrition, learn why it’s a problem and hear about strategies to tackle it.

Cllr Carol Hart, cabinet member for public health, said: “Malnutrition and dehydration cause serious health problems – including infections like colds and flu, depression and falls.”
