FARMERS will be able to earn extra cash this winter by clearing snow from the county’s roads.
Derbyshire County Council would like to hear from farmers and other contractors interested in helping to clear snow from roads covered by a proposed new tertiary network.
The council will offer a minimum payment of £200 to those who help with snow clearance. They will need to own suitable ploughing or gritting equipment.
Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council’s highways chief, said: “As well as bringing in extra income, you’d be doing a fantastic service in your community.”

• The county council is consulting on plans to change the gritting system. It is looking at creating three networks: a primary network, a secondary network and a tertiary network. For more information and to comment on the plans, visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk/grittingconsultation.
