Buxton Lions aid two groups in community

Donations from Buxton & District Lions have enabled groups to buy kit'¨to support valuable work with the elderly and young members of the community.

One grant, to Buxton & Beyond Macular Support Group, has funded the purchase of a TV Eye. This device is connected to a television and uses the screen to display a magnified image for reading and writing

The TV Eye will become part of the equipment for visually-impaired persons available at Buxton Library, so can be borrowed for six weeks.

The equipment is owned and managed by the macular support group which meets on the second Friday of the month at 1.30pm in Buxton Methodist Church. For more information, call Marge on 0129822136 or Norma on 0129879903.

A second grant from the Lions has enabled Buxton Coderdojo to buy six Raspberry Pi3 computers and auxiliary hardware kits, including robot arms and turtle drive projects.

This free, volunteer-led, programming club is open to young people from seven to 17 years. 
They can learn to code in a variety of languages, build websites, create an app or a game and explore technology. Sessions, at Buxton Library on the first Saturday of the month from 1pm until 3.30pm, extend the oexperience into real-world coding, interfacing with electronics to control real devices.
