Three members of Buxton United Reformed Church (URC) Pilots Youth Group have been accepted to take part in a charity trip to Zambia at the end of July.
The trio, Laura Clowes, Amy Jackson and Eve Sheridan, will be joined by Andrea Sheridan, Laura Green and Di and Roger Horne on the trip.
The group will be based at Kiine School, in one of Lusaka’s sprawling shanty towns, where they will be helping to build classrooms and other facilities. They will also take part in a wide range of ‘hands on’ programmes with Lusaka’s street children, families and elderly people.
Steve Fisher, Minister of the Buxton URC, said: “This trip is potentially life changing and, from my own experience, will open their eyes to the realities of non-materialism and is an opportunity to contribute in a very practical way to the real needs of children from another continent.”
Di Horne, Leader of the Pilots Youth Group, said: “We have to raise £15,000 and ask that members of the public from the Buxton area will support us.
“As part of our fundraising we are holding a table top sale including cake stall on Easter Monday April 1 from 10am to 1pm and an afternoon of tea and cakes including a silent auction on Saturday April 6 from 2pm to 4.30pm.”
Both events will take place in the URC Hall on Hardwick Square East, Buxton.
All money received will help towards the trip or building materials.
