Tourism giant to join Peak conference

The official tourism board of the Peak District – Visit Peak District & Derbyshire - announces its annual conference this year with the head billing of Doros Theodorou, Commercial Director at Trip Advisor, the global travel website company.

Mr Theodorou will talk to Visit Peak District delegates from around Derbyshire and the wider Peak District on how to best promote their businesses.

Other expert speakers include Sharon Orrell, Head of Research and Insight at Visit England who will talk on UK tourism trends, and Brigid Simmonds, Chair of British Beer and Pub Association, who will speak on the role of pubs in the tourism experience.

Local figures who will also be taking to the stage include Jim Dixon from the National Park, Sir Richard Fitzherbert of Tissington Hall and Sarah Macleod from Cromford Mill.

“We’re really excited about this year’s line up at our annual conference. There are some heavy weights of the tourism world coming to talk to local tourism providers about how to best promote their business” said Jim Oribine, Head of Industry Services for Visit Peak District & Derbyshire. “This year’s tourism conference comes at a positive time for businesses in the Peak District, following on from the recent launch of our ‘’ campaign targeting city dwellers to come and enjoy this fantastic part of the U.K. This not-to-be-missed conference is a must for everyone who plays a part in the area’s visitor economy.”

New for this year will be a social media Q&A panel, to help de-mystify social media for industry members and showcase how key tourism businesses manage their social media presence and best practices for effective usage.

Tickets are now on general sale for the area’s tourism event of the year, where 55 exhibitors including tourist attractions, activity providers, food producers, photographers, retailers and suppliers to the tourism sector will be present.

The conference, supported this year by High Peak Borough Council, University of Derby (Buxton) and Galloways Printers, opens on Thursday 21st March at 9am at Buxton’s Pavilion Gardens. For further details and how to book, visit:
