Business groups to merge

Two chambers of commerce have merged, to form a united business group.

Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce (DNCC) members have given its board of directors the approval to pursue a merger with the Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce.

A vote on the issue – which was put forward as a special resolution at DNCC’s 2013 annual general meeting – took place on Thursday.

DNCC members voted overwhelmingly in favour of the resolution, which gives the chamber’s directors the remit to negotiate and agree to merge with its sister organisation in Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Chamber members also voted in favour of the merge.

DNCC chief executive George Cowcher said: “Over the past 18 months, both chambers have been working more closely together and the proposed merger is the logical extension of this.

“The due diligence has been done, so assuming Leicestershire members vote the same way, we will aim to wrap up the talks quickly to ensure the merger concludes as smoothly as possible.”
