A burglar with a conscience returned money after stealing it from a homeowner.
A man knocked on the door of a house in Mosley Road, Buxton, between noon and 3pm on Friday, September 11 and asked to borrow a pen.
After he left the resident realised her purse, containing cash, was missing.
Detective Constable Gary Thomas, who is investigating the crime, said: "There's a strange twist to this case because either the suspect or another man went to the house at 1pm last Friday, September 18 and returned the money.
"It seems the burglar had a conscience because the man told the victim that his 'friend' was sorry.
"I’m appealing to the man himself, the suspect or anyone who has information about the offence to come forward and speak to me on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
