Community safety inspector Russ Dakin said: “I would like to take this opportunity to encourage residents and builders to ensure that new build and properties under restoration are left properly secure.

“We have had a number of incidents on such buildings where tools and building materials, such as copper piping and units, are being stolen by thieves.

“It is important to ensure that buildings have good quality locks to help prevent offenders from accessing a property and consider fitting an alarm system.

“If a property is vacant, consider leaving on a light overnight to deter thieves, ask neighbours to keep a look out on your property and make sure that valuable tools aren’t left in view of passers-by.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting crime number 53092/14 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
