Bradwell kids learn how to stay safe

Pupils at a school in Bradwell have been learning all about the role of a Safer Neighbourhood team after their local PCSO went back to class.

PCSO Anthony Boswell took on the role as a guest speaker at Bradwell C of E (Controlled) Infant School, where he spoke to the children as part of their class topic about the emergency services.

PCSO Boswell spoke to the children from Reception, Class One and Class Two about the role of the police and how they work to keep the communities safe.

He said: “School visits are a fantastic way for us to engage with the children from an early age.

“It is vital to educate them on the importance of staying safe and the rights and wrongs.

“It is really important that the kids get to know their Safer Neighbourhood team.

“We feel they should recognise and understand the role that we play in the community in to help keep them safe.

“The children seemed to really enjoy the visit and asked lots of inquisitive questions.

“I think their favourite part was learning more about the equipment we carry and testing out the police vehicle.”

Headteacher at Bradwell C of E Infant School, Geoff Wharton, said: “Anthony gave a great talk as usual and the children really enjoyed it, especially seeing the police van and equipment carried by PCSO Boswell.

“They were so enthused that our role-play area is now a police station equipped with uniforms, radio’s, junk-model computer, notepads, police dog and high-visibility jackets.

“This role-play has extended into playtimes, when chases and arrests can be observed on a daily basis – they really embraced the talk and have a thirst for knowledge.”
