A TEEN who punched a goalkeeper has become the youngest person in Derbyshire to be banned from regulated football games.

The 14-year-old boy – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was handed a three-year banning order in court today after pleading guilty to assaulting Bury keeper Cameron Belford during a clash with Chesterfield FC.

He was also given a one-year referral order, while £100 compensation was ordered to be paid the victim and £85 costs were made.

Speaking outside Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court, PC Alan Guy said: “We’re hoping to send a message out to juveniles to stop this sort of thing happening.”

The game at the B2net Stadium on April 25 hit national headlines when it was marred by pitch invasions and disorder.
