Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard this month how Kevin Beastall, 47, of Home Farm, Hopton, Wirksworth, had been drinking at home when he got a call from a friend saying his ex was in distress in a Matlock pub and he set off in his car.

Prosecuting solicitor Robert Carr said police saw the car swerving and stopped it and when they spoke to Beastall he appeared drunk. Beastall, who provided a breath-test, pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after the incident in May.

Julie Page, defending, said Beastall had been drinking and received a call saying his ex was distressed and he decided to go there. Ms Page added he had ideas of reconciliation. Magistrates fined Beastall £110 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge. He was banned from driving for 40 months.
