Boozed-up motorcyclist is fined after he fell off his bike

Jed Parsons, 22, of Woodview, Renishaw, was found over the limit with his motorcycle after police had been tipped-off that someone had come off their bike on Castle Hill, at Eckington, according to Chesterfield magistrates’ court.

Prosecuting solicitor John Cooper told the court hearing on Tuesday, August 2: “A female police officer was on patrol at 8.40pm, on July 10, when a member of the public advised that someone had fallen off their bike on Castle Hill.

“The officer found Parsons sitting on a bike wearing his helmet with the keys in the ignition and she asked if he was okay and he said he had almost fallen off the bike and she noticed the alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred.”

Parsons told the officer he had been driving around Sheffield before falling off on Castle Hill and he was struggling with pain to his left ankle and he had a tear in his jeans.

The defendant registered 46microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35microgrammes.

Parsons pleaded guilty to being in charge of a motorcycle after he had exceeded the prescribed alcohol drink-drive limit.

He told the court: “I had been with friends and I think I had three drinks over a long period of time and I thought I would be fit to ride my motorcycle but I had nothing to eat which might have had an effect.

“I thought I would be fit to ride my motorcycle but I wasn’t.”

Magistrates fined Parsons £80 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.

He also had his driving licence endorsed with ten points.
