Wayne Sinnott, 24, of Sidings Way, Westhouses, Alfreton, was on Corporation Street, near the Coco bar and at the bridge of the A61 bypass when he was approached by paramedics and police, according to Chesterfield magistrates’ court.

Prosecuting solicitor John Cooper told the court hearing on Tuesday, August 2: “Pc Amy Bartlett attended Corporation Street where a drunk male was with paramedics threatening to jump over the wall onto the bypass below.

“Members of the public had called them because the defendant was trying to jump and he smelled of alcohol.

“He was not making sense due to the alcohol and he repeatedly asked for a lift back to Alfreton but he was told they could not do that.”

Sinnott’s behaviour was erratic and he was shouting, according to Mr Cooper, and when his mother arrived he was shouting at her but he showed no further signs that he intended to hurt himself.

Mr Cooper added: “He was becoming increasingly aggressive and making threats to people and he was pushed to the ground and arrested for being drunk and disorderly.”

Sinnott pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place after the incident on July 15.

Defence solicitor David Gittins said: “This is a gentleman who got drunk and cannot explain why he behaved the way he did near to the bridge.”

Mr Gittins added that Sinnott was aware he had drunk too much alcohol and his mother is supporting him to address concerns about his drinking.

Magistrates fined Sinnott £120 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
