Bolsover chippie owner says burglar who stole seriously ill young boy's charity tin is '˜lowest of the low'

The Bolsover Fisheries, on Town End, was targeted at about 4.20am on Sunday morning.

A charity tin for Ashgate Hospicecare and one for a 10-year-old Bolsover boy were stolen.

Owner of Bolsover Fisheries, Bali Kaur, 51, said: “It is heartbreaking to think that somebody can come in and help themselves to a charity tin. It is the lowest of the low. It has really upset us.”

The shop has been raising awareness and funds for young Will Downes, a 10-year-old boy from Bolsover who has ALD - a genetic disease which destroys brain cells.

But the business was burgled in the early hours of Sunday morning when someone broke in after smashing down a door.

Since the burglary the community has been rallying around the shop with donations and kind messages.

Bali said: “There are some fantastic people out there. A local young man who is looking for a job came into the shop with a pocket full of change and asked us to pass it on to the poorly boy whose charity tin was pinched.

“The burglar has not taken it from me but from the whole community. People are disgusted.”

A spokesperson for Derbyshire police said a 36-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary.
