Boiler and insulation scheme re-launched in the Dales

Despite near heatwave conditions in July, now is the time to think about saving cash on energy bills this coming winter.

That’s why Derbyshire Dales District Council is re-launching a scheme with its Warmstreets partner to make homes cheaper to heat for local people receiving certain benefits and living in accommodation that is difficult to insulate.

Old and uneconomical boilers could be replaced for free as the District Council encourages residents to improve energy efficiency - and grants are available for internal and external wall insulation, plus loft and cavity wall insulation.

To qualify for the work, Derbyshire Dales residents must be receiving Pension Credit, Child Tax Credit with an income below £15,860, income-related benefits with a qualifying component or Working Tax Credit with an income of less than £15,860.

Funding, which comes from the Government’s new Energy Company Obligation (ECO), is also targeted more generally at home owners who have hard-to-treat cavity walls, including those that are narrow or part of a property more than two storeys high.

Councillor Jennifer Bower, Chairman of the District Council’s Communities Committee said: “We are committed to improving the energy efficiency of properties throughout the Derbyshire Dales and are delighted to be continuing our work with Warmstreets to help make homes warmer and reduce fuel costs.

“While the funding is generally for people in receipt of a qualifying benefit, there may also be help available to everyone in ‘hard to treat’ properties, so we urge Dales residents to contact Warmstreets as soon as possible to establish if they qualify.”
