A COMMUNITY has been left devastated after a mum was killed in a fire.

Emergency services were called to a house on Middle Road, Hardwick Wood near Wingerworth at 1.30pm on Tuesday, May 8.

The body of a 42-year-old woman, named locally as Trudy Elliott, was found in the detached garage at the property.

Neighbour Ewan Mosley said: “Everyone is just devastated and so shocked by what has happened.

“My heart goes out to her family.

“They really seemed like the perfect family, with two small girls. For this to happen is terrible.”

Another neighbour who did not want to be named added: “We are a very close knit community. We can’t believe it.

“Everyone is shaken by what has happened.”

The family are believed to own Woodleigh Motors, which have premises in Grassmoor and Chesterfield.

Police and the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service have launched an investigation.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined but the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Fire appliances from Chesterfield, Clay Cross and Matlock attended.
