TEENAGE sweethearts are celebrating 50 years of golden romance.
June and John Webley, of Duckmanton, marked their wedding anniversary on April 14 with a holiday.
June, aged 15, met John after becoming a teacher for the girls at their local church Sunday school.
John, aged 16, was an apprentice carpenter and joiner and already a teacher for the boys.
June, 71, said: “We exchanged smiles across the aisle and went on to become very good friends.”
They married at Chesterfield Register Office in 1962.
John, 72, finished his apprenticeship and become a carpenter then a trench inspector for Derbyshire County Council while June was a teacher for 28 years in local schools.
The couple, who enjoy playing tennis and getting out and about on John’s motorbike, have one son, Robert.
