The doting couple married 60 years ago last Thursday in Davenham, Northwich, after first meeting at a dance.

But it was a love affair of a different kind which brought the well-travelled pair to Biggin 14 years ago.

“We used to walk through here when we visited Derbyshire and we just fell in love with the place,” said Thelma, 79.

The couple have three daughters, Stella, Rosemarie and Sally, along with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A WI member, Thelma also attends St Thomas’ Church with her husband, who is a regular bingo caller at the village hall.

Tony, 82, enjoys restoring motorbikes, and three years ago, supported by his wife, he completed a sponsored ride to John O’Groats and back on a vintage 1962 Triumph T38 in aid of the charity Children with Cancer.

To mark their Diamond Wedding anniversary, the couple, of Drury Lane, hosted a party at the weekend for friends and family.

Thelma added: “It’s been an eventful life, but a very happy one.”
