Big chill to bring freezing temperatures and first snow of winter in parts of Derbyshire

A big chill is set to envelop Derbyshire – with freezing temperatures and some snow in parts of the county by Friday.

Daytime temperatures will this week struggle to push higher than 5C and overnight frosts are likely, according to the Met Office.

Folk living in parts of the Peak District can expect to see their first snowfall of the winter on Friday as a band of wintry showers arrives – but it will not be disruptive.

Into next week, the Met Office is predicting more wintry showers although exact details of how much and where they may be have not yet been finalised by forecasters.

The cold snap comes after Met Office data shows the UK saw one of its warmest autumns on record.

Meteorologically, winter began on Monday.
