A Belper “Jekyll and Hyde” partner pestered ex in Ripley

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, November 3, how Shane Ambrose, 26, of Rookery Close, Belper, breached his restraining order by contacting his ex in Ripley.

Prosecuting solicitor Ian Shaw said: “Ambrose has a previous conviction for an assault which led to the restraining order being imposed until December, 2015. The complainant said she had not seen Ambrose for a number of months and by chance she bumped into him and saw him on and off and she thought he had changed and she was considering contacting the court to remove the order. But she decided it was not going to work out and the defendant moved back in with his mum.”

However, Mr Shaw explained that Ambrose called his ex about 1am, on November 1, and she could tell he had been drinking and he asked to be collected and mentioned possessions at her address that he wanted.

But when the complainant said she was in bed, according to Mr Shaw, Ambrose became angry, called her repeatedly, banged at her friend’s door and continued to phone her 13 times before police arrived.

Mr Shaw added: “She thought he had changed but she realised he is a Jekyll and Hyde character who creates problems when he has had a drink.

“She is scared to see him and scared to go out in the dark and is concerned that he is involving her friends.”

Ambrose pleaded guilty to breaching his restraining order. Defence solicitor Denny Lau said the complainant is supportive but recognises Ambrose needs punishing. Magistrates adjourned the case until November 19 to consider pre-sentence reports. Ambrose was released on bail.
