Belgian football fans who have adopted the Spireites as their team have been forging links with the Chesterfield community.

Between the Bristol City fixture and the game at Bramall Lane, their schedule included working with French speaking students at New Whittington Primary School, restoration work at Barrow Hill Roundhouse and Arkwright Mill and helping at the Ashgate Hospice distribution centre.

Sylvain Lecomte, one of the fans, said: “We have been made so welcome by so many people and we now feel we know so much more about the area.

“The football is important but it has become just part of why we are now forever linked to the town.”
