Banned motorist caught behind the wheel in Oakerthorpe by police

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, January 26, how Jack Walker, 23, was stopped while driving a Ford Transit on Chesterfield Road, Oakerthorpe, near Alfreton, and was found to be driving while disqualified and without insurance.

Prosecuting solicitor Rod Chapman said: “He was stopped as a result of an ANPR check on the vehicle which flagged up concerns.

“Police asked Walker if he had insurance and he volunteered that he had been driving while disqualified.”

Walker, of Cantilupe Crescent, Sheffield, lost his licence previously through an accumulation of driving penalty points, according to Mr Chapman.

The defendant, who has previous convictions, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and without insurance after the latest incident on December 3, last year.

Defence solicitor Annette Thomas said Walker had been assisting a friend at the time he was stopped.

She added that even though he has previous driving convictions this is the first time he has been dealt with for driving while banned.

Magistrates adjourned the case to consider probation reports before sentencing on February 1.

Walker was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing.
