Banned and boozy motorist is caught driving while disqualified for the eleventh time

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, July 25, how booze-fuelled Martin Peter Webb, 55, was stopped by police on Alfreton Road, at South Normanton, after officers spotted a Peugeot 307 being driven by a man when it was owned by a woman.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “Officers stopped a vehicle. The reason was that it was registered and insured to a female.

“Webb smelled of alcohol and there was a positive roadside breath test and when he was asked if he was insured he said no and said the vehicle belonged to his partner and she did not know he had taken it.”

Webb, of Oliver Road, Kirk Hallam, Ilkeston, registered 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath after the incident at about 1.10am, on July 11.

Mrs Allsop added that Webb has ten previous convictions for driving while disqualified as well as two previous drink-driving convictions.

He pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit, driving while disqualified, and to using a vehicle without insurance after the incident on July 11.

Webb also admitted taking the Peugeot 307 without the consent of the owner from Oliver Road, at Ilkeston.

The defendant told police he had taken the car the previous evening while his partner was in bed to help a friend move some property and he did not realise he was intoxicated.

Magistrates sentenced Webb to eight weeks of custody suspended for 12 months with a Rehabilitation Activity Requirement and 100 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

Webb was further disqualified from driving for 18 months.
