BAKEWELL: New police officer on the beat

A police officer who has more than 15 years’ experience of keeping communities safe from crime has joined Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team.

PC Ian Hyde is the latest member of the new-look team and joins PCSO Hayley Grundy on the town centre unit.

The officer, who replaces PC Phil Maycock, has been a police officer since 1996, when he joined Leicestershire Constabulary.

He moved over to Derbyshire in 1999 and spent five years in Derby, followed by stints in the Matlock and Buxton areas.

During his time in Matlock, PC Hyde worked on Safer Neighbourhood teams there and in Wirksworth.

He said that experience will give him a head start in helping to keep the Bakewell community safe.

PC Hyde said: “Serving the Bakewell area is going to be quite a unique challenge because it has its residents and businesses, combined with a huge number of tourists all year round.

“The team has done a great deal of work along with partner organisations to make sure the town is a safe place to live in and visit and I aim to build on that good work.

“The experience I’ve gained during my time in Derbyshire will hopefully help me achieve that and I’m looking forward to taking on the new challenge in Bakewell.”

The town’s Safer Neighbourhood team has recently been focusing on shoplifting and recruiting Bakewell retailers to the ShopWatch radio scheme.
