A councillor who had half her finger bitten off by a dog while out delivering leaflets has returned to canvassing.

As reported earlier this week, Jean Innes lost the top of her middle finger on her right hand when she posted a leaflet through a letterbox in Old Whittington.

LETTERBOX HORROR: Derbyshire councillor’s finger is bitten off by dog

Yesterday, Chesterfield MP Toby Perkins tweeted that he had been out promoting Labour policies with Jean, who he described as “legendary”.

The Chesterfield borough and Derbyshire county councillor is calling for dog owners to fit letterbox guards to prevent the grisly attack from happening to anyone else.

She said: “I’m concerned this could happen to someone else.

“We often take children and grandchildren out with us – it could have been one of them.

“Nobody should be exposed to these dangers.”

Mr Perkins is also backing her calls for action.
