A SCHOOL pupil who gave a star turn as Michael Jackson after organising a variety show in aid of charity has been honoured with a community award by his former school.
Scott Smith, a star on YouTube for his impressions of the King of Pop, picked up the Community Service Award at Shirebrook Academy’s Celebration of Success Event, which was held at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex, Sookholme, earlier this month .
Scott raised £300 at the concert, which saw other pupils showing off their guitar-playing, singing and dancing skills.
He said: “It was very exciting to be recognised and it meant a lot to get the award.
“I really enjoyed my time at Shirebrook Academy and I liked representing the school over the years too.
“I started dancing like Michael Jackson because I became interested in him as a person and it’s gone from there.
“I really enjoy doing his routines and getting up on stage to do one at the Sport Relief concert was brilliant,” he added.
Julie Bloor, principal of Shirebrook Academy, praised Scott.
She said: “He was a delightful student during his time here and his commitment to helping other people, his slogan and his fantastically successful show – not to mention his unforgettable star turn as Michael Jackson – mean that he has left a lasting legacy here at Shirebrook Academy.”
