Thousands of country fair revellers are set to savour the sights, sounds and smells of traditional rural life at the much-loved annual extravaganza at Rectory Fields, Ashover, on Wednesday, August 14.

Now in its 82nd year, the event – which has become Derbyshire’s premier one-day show – will feature dozens of horticultural, livestock and agricultural competitions with entries from across the region as well as dog shows, vintage cars and craft displays.

And this year there will be a special fly-past by a Dakota plane to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Spokesman Hugh Meredith said: “We are proud to offer a traditional country show which has something to entertain every member of the family.

“The ultimate success of Ashover Show is that it is run purely by volunteers.

“Providing the weather holds we can look foward to another iconic show.”

Mr Meredith added: “As much as the world has progressed since 1924, Ashover Show remains as one of the most popular agricultural events in the country and enjoys tremendous loyalty and support from its members, supporters and visitors.

“We intend to continue to offer outstanding value and a full day’s entertainment for many years to come.”

Last year, more than 16,000 people flocked to the spectacle.

Gates open at 9am with the show ending at dusk.
