Members of All Saints Church experienced a special Kenyan version of Sunday morning service this week. It was chosen by the Rev Alan Telford, who led the service and who said later: “I thought it would be a change from the traditional forms of Holy Communion we normally enjoy.” Organist was Sarah Evans, the lesson was read by Mark Hillard and Intercessions were led by Ruth Russell.
Several church members have taken part in the Big Garden Birdwatch organised by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. At the request of church member Sue Crookes, the membership officer for Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, they spent one hour at the weekend logging the birds in their gardens or local parks. “The aim is to get a snapshot of bird numbers and species in this part of the world,” said Sue. Records from similar surveys between 1979 and 2012 have revealed a dramatic decline in the number of house sparrows and starlings but a significant increase in blue tits.
