ASHOVER: All smiles at village spectacle

There are smiles all round in Ashover today as the village holds its popular annual extravaganza.

Thousands of country fair revellers are flocking to the 82nd show to enjoy a jam-packed day of delights (see video and pictures).

The sun-kissed event – which has become Derbyshire’s premier one-day show – features dozens of horticultural, livestock and agricultural competitions with entries from across the region as well as dog shows, vintage cars, food demonstrations and craft displays.

At 2pm, spectators will look up to the skies to view a special fly-past by a Dakota plane to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.

Spokesman Hugh Meredith said: “We are proud to offer a traditional country show which has something to entertain every member of the family.

“As much as the world has progressed since 1924, Ashover Show remains as one of the most popular agricultural events in the country and enjoys tremendous loyalty and support from its members, supporters and visitors.”

The show ends at dusk.
