COUNCIL chiefs are appealing for people to nominate budding stars for the Bolsover District Sports Awards.
Bolsover District Council is on the lookout for the stars and unsung heroes of the sporting world from the past year.
This could be anyone from a dedicated coach, a team who have swept all before them or a volunteer without whom a sports club simply could not function.
District Councillor Ann Syrett said: “These dedicated local sportspeople, clubs and teams are the lifeblood of sport throughout Bolsover district and we want to recognise them for all their hard work and achievements.
“The awards are not solely for recognising the most elite in sport, but also those without whose time, expertise and help, sports activities would simply fall by the wayside.”
The Awards are split into ten categories including Sportsperson of the Year, Club of the Year, Disabled Sportsperson of the Year, Community Coach of the Year and Young Sports Leader with each category up for grabs.
Each category has qualifying criteria and must be based upon performances from September 2011 to August 2012. Nominations can be received from any individual, club or team involved in schools or sports organisations within Bolsover district and the nominee must be involved in a sport recognised by Sport England.
“During the last couple of years we have seen some excellent winners, but we know there are many more out there who deserve recognition for what they do and have achieved. So whatever it is, nominate them so we can recognise and reward those involved in sport,” added Cllr Syrett
The awards ceremony will take place on Friday October 5, 2012, and the winners of the Bolsover District Awards will be submitted for the Derbyshire Sports Awards which then feed into the BBC East Midlands and BBC National Sports Awards.
Deadlines for nominations is Monday, September 10, 2012, and forms are available to complete on-line at www.bolsover.gov.uk/sports-awards or telephoning (01246) 593066.
