Answers about mystery coin

Readers have come forward with answers about this mysterious coin.

We launched an appeal for information about the object which was found by resident David Slack as he was clearing out his mother’s house.

Scores of readers came forward to say it is a Death Plaque – a memorial issued to the next of kin of servicemen and women who died in World War One.

The coin is inscribed with the words ‘he died for freedom and honour’ and the name ‘John Scully’.
