I’M Inspector Dave Stone and it is a real honour to write my first column for the Derbyshire Times.
I have worked for Derbyshire Constabulary since 1984 and my current role is Community Safety Manager for Chesterfield, Bolsover, NE Derbyshire and Amber Valley – known in policing terms as C Division.
One of my responsibilities, along with my team of officers, is working together with partner agencies, such as local councils and the fire service, to help make Derbyshire a safer place to live.
This is a role I feel passionate about having lived in the area all my life. I was born in Chesterfield in 1960 and attended Highfield Hall Primary School and then Tapton House Grammar School.
In the early 1980s my dad was a member of the Special Constabulary in Chesterfield and one Sunday afternoon he said to me ‘why don’t you try my uniform on?’
Laughing, I thought why not and just a few months later I applied to Derbyshire Constabulary and was successful.
During my career I have worked in Derby and Ripley before returning to Chesterfield in 1994. I was promoted to Inspector in 2005.
I am pleased to be working with the Derbyshire Times to pass on information to you, the reader, about the work my team is doing, seasonal crime trends and advice to help you keep your home and property safe.
I would also like readers to submit questions you would like me to answer; these can be about anything relating to policing that you feel would be of interest to other readers.
