Football fans are invited to a night of food and fun with former Arsenal and England team player with all funds going to help 12 clubs with younger players.
Wingerworth Junior Sports Association, based on The Avenue, Derby Road, recently upgraded the pitches and now to replenish the clubs funds it is hosting an evening with Paul Merson at the Chesterfield FC Proact Stadium on Friday, January 22.
Coach Darren Parkinson, 31, said: “This is a big deal for us and we are excited we have managed to get Paul to come.
“Raising the money to keep the club going is essential and although we now have lovely new grounds to play on our reserve pit needs topping up, and as we are totally self funded we need to raise funds.” Wingerwoth JSA was formed in 1986 and has developed from one team named Wingerworth Juniors to over 10 Junior boys teams, a girls team and the ‘Little Dudes Academy’ which caters for five to seven year olds starting out their footballing journeys.
Darren said: “Sadly ticket sales have been slow at the minute, we know it is just after Christmas and everyone is still trying to get over that but this is going to be a good night.”
Paul will be joined by comedian Mike Farrell, and compere Nick Johnson from Sky Sports and all guests get a three course meal in with their £40 ticket.
There are still 120 tickets left and anyone looking to book or for more information should call Phil Toy on 07891 057508.
