Alfreton light switch-on success

The cold weather did nothing to hamper the crowds as Alfreton Town Council switched on the town’s Christmas lights.

The decorations were turned on by town mayor Marlene Bennett – who was accompanied by popular mascot Rammie, on Friday, November 27.

Displays were converted to LED which not only makes the lights brighter but also more cost efficient.

This year, the displays have been extended along Mansfield Road, New Street and Limes Avenue.

Crowds were entertained by local school choirs Copthorne Infant Community School, Christ the King Primary School and Woodbridge Junior School.

There were many local charity stalls and businesses holding raffles, tombola’s and selling cakes and goods, along with fairground rides.

Santa’s Wonderland welcomed the man himself on his sleigh. He also had donkey’s in tow, for children to pet.
