ALFRETON: Inner Wheel welcomes one of Derbyshire’s first policewomen

Alfreton Inner Wheel’s February meeting opened with president Clair welcoming everyone, with a special welcome to members who had been ill and unable to attend previous meetings.

Clair thanked everyone for supporting the ‘Rock up in Red’ theme of the evening in aid of the British Heart Foundation’. Most members dressed in red and gave a donation for BHF, which raised £68.

The president welcomed Jenny Savidge and Joyce Clifford, who have rejoined the Club and inducted new member Joyce Harkus.

Birthday wishes were given to members with February birthdays.

Following an enjoyable carvery meal, the speaker for the evening, Ann-Marie Loades, was introduced. The talk ‘Life on the Beat’ included many interesting tales of her experiences during 33 years in the police force as one of Derbyshire’s first policewomen. Kay Ramsbottom gave a vote of thanks.

The business meeting followed with club officers giving reports.

Members were reminded of forthcoming events and arrangements for the Club Charter Anniversary on February 22, at Morley Hayes.
