A TEENAGE swimming star is making a splash in memory of her young friend who died earlier this year.
Alana Simpson, 14, a Netherthorpe schoolgirl from Mastin Moor will swim 2000 metres in a sponsored swim, to remember her school friend, Chloe Eyre, who died after a long battle with cystic fibrosis in March.
The Eckington swimming club member has so far raised over £1000 for the swim, which will be split between Great Ormond Street, where Chloe had a lung transplant, and the Cystic Fibrosis trust.
Her mum, Rosalyn Simpson, said: “Alana said she would like to do something for Chloe.
“I am really proud of what she is doing for her friend.”
The swim takes place at 2pm on July 2 at Eckington baths.
