ANIMAL centres have been inundated with abandoned or unwanted Christmas pets.
The Chesterfield and North Derbyshire branch of the RSPCA has had 39 new animals brought in since December including dogs, cats, rabbits, rats and birds.
The centre also have several long-term animals desperate for a home including a pair of pigs.
Deputy manager Gary Tyalor said: “We’ve been extremely busy throughout December.
“If your thinking of giving a pet for Christmas think long and hard about it.
“It’s not a good idea to get an animal on a whim as you have a commitment for the whole life of the animal.”
