Head teacher Julie Stanton was removed from St Giles Primary School last week after a petition calling for her to be replaced was handed into Ofsted signed by a number of parents.

The call came after the school was placed in special measures last year.

Concerned parents started to pull their children out of St Giles – fearful of slipping standards.

Jackie Micklethwaite has now stepped up to the role of headteacher at the school for the time being.

Judith Hayward, chairman of governors at St Giles Primary School said: “An acting head teacher, Jackie Micklethwaite, joined us on Monday this week and is working with staff and governors to make sure the school continues to run as normal and provides the best possible education for all our pupils.

Parents have been told about Mrs Micklethwaite’s appointment and we will continue to keep them informed of work we’re doing as a school.”

Derbyshire County Council could not confirm how long Mrs Micklethwaite was likely to be in place.
