A38 blocked as lorry fire is extinguished

Commuters are being warned of potential disruption after a HGV fire on the A38.

The fire started at 3.30pm, today Monday May 16 and Derbyshire Police has confirmed that the A38 near Watchhorn Island and the M1 at the Alfreton turn off is blocked while fire and rescue take place.

The call to the emergency services by another motorist described the scene with the flaming lorry as “causing mayhem”.

The road will remain blocked while the fire service continue to work on the vehicle and until it is recovered.
