A house without a cat is not a home

AN ANIMAL centre is hosting a kitten crazy event to find loving owners for their many moggies.

The Chesterfield branch of the RSPCA is hosting the event, in a bid to rehome over 60 cats and kittens that have swamped the centre in recent weeks.

They will be hosting a ‘Kitten Krazy Weekend’ at their Spital Lane base on Saturday July 2, to give potential owners the chance to see the furry felines.

As well as having a chance to meet the cats and kittens, there will be refreshments, themed stalls and games at the event.

Julie Schofield, fundraising officer and volunteer co-ordinator at the branch, said: “We have an unprecedented number of cats and kittens in our care at the moment, and we really need to find them new homes as quickly as possible.

“We are up by a third on the numbers compared to this time last year - which is very worrying”.

“It is absolutely heart-breaking that these poor cats especially the mums-to-be have just been dumped and left to fend for themselves.”

Amongst the kittens available for adoption are Tia, Cornelius and Tigger - who at just six to seven weeks old are in need of a caring home. Like many of the cats who have been brought in, they are currently being looked after by a fosterer and we will be brought in on the weekend for people to see.

The branch is also offering to microchip cats for free in a bid to encourage responsible pet ownership.

Julie added: “We are hoping that lots of people will come along and support the Kitten Krazy weekend and that we will find loving new homes for all of them”.
