Chesterfield Royal Hospital’s A&E waiting area has reopened.

Patients had to gather outside the Calow hospital earlier this afternoon when the waiting area was closed after a patient claimed to be contaminated.

A hospital spokesman said: “A patient turned up and claimed to have been contaminated with a chemical while at work – it’s not clear what chemical.”

The hospital sought advice from the Health and Safety Executive and the fire service’s contamination unit attended as a precaution.
