The newspaper has helped raise over £15,000 so far with its Pelican Cycles Flagg Challenge Ride, a White Swan and Raw Brewery charity ale as well as encouraging readers’ fundraising endeavours.

But Jon will be taking on the hospice’s Carsington Water Walk and Bike Ride event, at Ashbourne, on Sunday, November 10.

Jon said: “The compassion and consideration shown by all the staff and volunteers at the hospice has inspired the newspaper to help wherever possible. And during this 25th anniversary year, it’s an absolute pleasure for the Derbyshire Times to join forces with readers and with so much fundraising to help the hospice continue its wonderful work.”

Budding sponsored walkers can join Jon during either a two mile or eight mile walk or bike ride round Carsington Water in November. Those interested can visit www.ashgatehospice.org.uk or can call the hospice on (01246) 568801. To publicise your fundraisers contact Jon on (01246) 504524 or [email protected].

Ashgate Hospice Alison Ward-Foster said: “Our annual walk around Carsington Water is set in a beautiful part of Derbyshire and there is a shorter and longer trek so it’s suitable for all abilities.”
