Average October temperature: 26.7 degrees celcius (80 degrees fahrenheit)

Situated to the south of Turkey, Cyprus’ economy leans on its tourism (providing around 100,000 jobs) – so, with that in mind, it should make for an excellent holiday spot.

It’s every bit as great as you’d expect. English is one of Cyprus’ most spoken languages, so this shouldn’t be a barrier. Furthermore, as it’s a warm-climate island, Cyprus possesses a plethora of picturesque beaches and coasts for you to visit.

The culture of Cyprus is a good selling point too, given its rich history. From the Mycenaean Greeks to the Ottoman Empire, Cyprus has a more detailed past than you may imagine.

Lanzarote

Average October temperature: 26.8 degrees celcius (80.2 degrees fahrenheit)

One of the hottest of the Canary Islands, complete with some stunning views, Lanzarote is a fantastic place to visit at any time of the year.

Again, as it’s an island, Lanzarote has some breathtaking beaches to go to and admire. However, there’s much more to it than just that. Timanfaya national park provides some truly unique landscapes to see, complete with a volcano, while Hacha Grande provides an excellent challenge for any mountain climbing enthusiasts.

As a side note, artist Cesar Manrique was from Lanzarote – if you want to take a look at his work, you won’t be disappointed by the Cesar Manrique House Museum.

Average October temperature: 28.3 degrees celcius (82.9 degrees fahrenheit)

Situated in Morocco, Marrakech is generally very hot around October. But, there's much more to this place than just sunshine.

Jemaa el-Fnaa is one of Africa’s busiest and well-known city centres, with an extremely deep history and masses of cultural icons. One of the most vibrant places in the world, if you’re visiting Marrakech, you have to go to Jemaa el-Fnaa.

Other places of interest in Marrakesh includes the Koutoubia Mosque, standing at 70 metres tall – impressive, considering it’s almost 900 years old. You should also take a trip to Medina Souks – a sprawling, maze-like marketplace where you can find things you wouldn’t believe.

Cancun

Average October temperature: 32.9 degrees celcius (91.2 degrees fahrenheit)

The hottest place on the list, if you decide to go to Cancun, don’t be afraid to be liberal in your application of sun cream.

Located on the southeast coast of Mexico, Cancun once again brings fabulous beaches to the table. It also has the world’s second-longest coral reef, as well as plenty of shopping centres and amenities for tourists.

If historical sites are your thing, then Cancun has some fascinating archeological sites to visit. The remnants of ancient civilisations, such as the Mayans, can be admired in their full glory at El Rey or El Meco.
