Everything you need to know about Derbyshire's National Trust estates reopening

The National Trust has made the decision to open Hardwick Hall’s estate and Calke Abbey’s estate from June 3. The houses will remain closed.

A National Trust spokeswoman said: “We’re reopening the places you love, gradually, safely and in line with government advice. ​

“We've already opened more than 200 National Trust coast and countryside car parks in England and Northern Ireland. From 3 June, we’re opening a small number of gardens and parklands in England and Northern Ireland through advance bookings. ​

“We can’t open everywhere at once and we’ll open more places in the coming weeks. For now, houses remain closed and all places in Wales remain closed following Welsh Government advice.​

“For many of these places, you’ll need to book your visit in advance. Please always check before you travel. Thanks for your patience and support, we can’t wait to welcome you back.”

What has changed

All visitors must now book a ticket in advance, including members. Entrance and parking is free for members but you still have to bring your membership card. And, you will now book a time slot. The National Trust has also said that people will be turned away if they haven’t booked.

What are the rules

Children under five-years-old will not need tickets booked and you will only be allowed to visit once a week to allow others a “chance to visit”.

You will have to arrive within your 30-minute timeslot. But you can stay for as long as you would like that day.

Dogs on leads are also welcome and there has been changes to routes around the estate.

What is open

At Hardwick the main car park, stableyard and garden and stableyard toilets are open. At Calke the park and garden is open.
